Checklist for Snow Camp
General notes:
- Use layers of clothing.
- Use synthetics or wool. Cotton kills!
- Keep dry. Have changes of clothing if you do get wet.
- Be prepared for temperatures down to 15° F at night, and either rain or snow.
- Boots that are large enough that you can wiggle your toes with all socks on.
Basic Equipment
- __permission slip
__money for fast food, spending, emergency
__backpack or gear bag
__sleeping bag in waterproof sack
__extra blankets if sleeping bag is thin
__tent (ask quartermaster to supply one)
__waterproof ground cloth (for inside tent)
__foam insulation pad (2 recommended)
Clothing
- __snow boots (like Sorels) or
__hiking boots (waterproofed)
__gaitors (if not using high-top snow boots)
__socks (thick wool or polypropylene) - at least 1 pair/day
__socks (thin inner socks) - optional
__extra underpants
__thermal underwear (tops and bottoms, 2 sets recommended)
__something to sleep in
__shirts
__sweater
__long pants (wool pants, powder pants, or wind pants, but NOT jeans), 2 pair
__warm jacket or coat
__windproof outer shell
__rain jacket or poncho
__rain pants
__wool hat
__scout hat or sun hat
__mittens and shells, or gloves (2 pair)
__waterproof bag to hold clothing
Small equipment
- __fork and spoon
__cup, bowl, plate
__daypack
__pocket knife
__water bottle or canteen (1 quart)
__first aid kit
__medicines (leader must be informed)
__lip balm
__map (get from leader) in plastic bag
__compass
__flashlight with extra batteries and bulb
__matches in waterproof container
__small candle for fire starting

__some nylon cord (emergency repairs, etc.)
__sun protection (SPF 15)
__sunglasses, leash
__large garbage bags
__medium plastic bags (emergency wear between leaking boots and socks)
__toilet kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb, etc.)
__toilet paper in plastic bag
